Protect yourself and your belongings. Get the whole family on board, and add Lock It or Lose It to your 9 pm routine.

Catalytic converters are a target for thieves due to the value of the metal inside the converter.  Here are some tips:

  • Parking in well-lit areas close to public entrances.

  • Installing an anti-theft device.

  • Installing motion-sensitive lights and cameras in your parking area.

  • Picking up a catalytic converter etching kit, etching your VIN number into the catalytic converter, and registering it into a database to alert law enforcement and scrap metal dealers that it was stolen and assist in identifying the owner.  For more information on obtaining a kit, contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 720-977-5030.

Even though you’re only starting your car to warm it up or cool it down, in a matter of seconds it can be stolen. Never leave your car running and unattended!

Come to Thornton PD headquarters at Thornton Parkway and I-25 to safely drop off your unused medications. Keep these unused drugs out of the hands of the people who shouldn’t have them.

Protect your car and your stuff! Remove valuables from your car, including garage door openers, weapons, keys, money, bank cards, and personal information, park in a garage or well-lit area, roll your windows up, and lock your car every time.

Auto theft has become a real problem, nationwide.  But does it have to be?

A hefty portion of auto thefts occur for many reasons.  Some because folks leave their keys in the car, leave doors unlocked, or simply leave their cars running unattended.  We are also aware of the auto theft trends stemming from social media with high number of KIAs and Hyundais being stolen.  But did you know Kia and Hyundai owners can now have electronic immobilizers installed to significantly reduce auto theft?  If you’re a KIA/Hyundai owner with a vehicle not outfitted with an electronic immobilizer, just call your local Kia/Hyundai dealer for more information.
